St Petersburg is pretty hot during the summer. If you’re from Tampa Bay, you know the weather in the whole area is very hot in the summer, so don’t wait for another record year in 2013, get the pool you’ve always dreamed of having!

Record Temperatures
So, just how hot was it in 2012? The difference in temperature year to year is usually measured in fractions of a degree, but last year’s average temp surpassed the previous record by a whole degree: at 55.3 degrees! This record has been rising for years, but never as much as it did in 2012.“The heat was remarkable,” said Jake Crouch, who is a scientist with the National Climatic Data Center. “It was prolonged. That we beat the record by one degree is quite a big deal.”
This record is for the United States, and is not expected to be a global temperature record when figures are released. This year there was a La Niña weather pattern, which cools global climate, so scientists don’t expect it to be the worlds hottest year; probably the eighth or ninth.
Among the cities that set temperature records in 2012 were:

- Athens, Ga
- Cairo, Ill
- Greenville, S.C.
- Lamar, Co
